Before we give you the great news and details about the rebate program for 2010, let’s take a few moments and discuss just what the benefits of a Heat Pump are, specifically the Ground Source Heat Pump. The Ground Source Heat Pump utilizes geothermal technology. That is, the source and success of the unit is provided by the constant temperature of the earth below. It provides heating, cooling, and hot water for homes and commercial buildings. Rather than creating heat like conventional systems, geothermal units move heat that already exists. In the winter, the ground heat exchanger collects heat from the ground and carries it through the system and into the indoor air delivery system. In the summer, the system reverses itself to cool the building by pulling heat from the building and depositing it in the ground.
The high efficiency of the geothermal system can lead to a payback within three to five years through energy savings. Home owners typically save 30-50% in annual energy costs and some have experienced up to 70% savings. Ground source heat pumps have few maintenance requirements. The heat pump is placed inside your home, protecting it form out door elements and trash that can clog-up outdoor equipment or damage electrical components. When properly installed, the underground components (the loop) are virtually worry-free! Ok, now the rebate details: Ground-source heat pumps that are purchased and installed in the calendar year 2010 will receive a $150.00 per ton rebate (max 5 ton per residence).
