| Grandparents, farmers, Main Street
business owners, Sunday School teachers...they are all part of our
co-op. Southeastern Electric Cooperative is owned and operated by the
community it serves. That's why we are committed to reinvesting in
the community -- it's our home! Always has been. Always will be. |
Commitment to Community has always been a top priority at SEC. This is evidenced by our numerous ongoing school projects:
- SEC distributes approximately 13,000 ribbons each year to area schools for the annual “Red Ribbon” week, drug prevention program. The ribbons read: “The Choice For Me – Drug Free”.
- The “Shocking Truth about Electricity” safety program is available to 5th and 6th grade students. It includes a video on electrical safety, a 30,000 volt demonstration and a demonstration on static electricity with an Electrostatic Generator.
- Oklahoma Youth Expo & Youth Leadership Summit. SEC provides sponsorhip through the Championship Premium Sale in Oklahoma City, and provides scholorhsips for two area high school juniors.
- Provide a full scholarship for the “Kids at College” program sponsored by Southeastern Oklahoma State University, Continuing Education Department. Children ages 4-12 attend day camp at the university and are shown how to develop an attitude of when I go to college as opposed to if I go to college. For more information visit www.sosu.edu/conted .
- SEC employees volunteer to assist with the local and state Special Olympics. SEC provides medallions for each participant at the regional “Winter Music and Art Festival” in Durant. Employees also travel to Stillwater each year to assist with the State Special Olympics event.
- Provide monetary assistance to the annual Junior Livestock fairs.
- Provide donations and safety presentations for area rural fire departments.
- Employees donate money, time and talent to local area events and fundraisers, such as “American Cancer Society’s, Relay for Life”, “Bryan County Ag Expo”, and area “Jr Livestock” shows.
